DUAL SOUND ENGINES
Subzero synthesizer interface, with blue and violet chambers and detailed modulation controls

Subzero began with an image of two ice cubes under pressure, each read by a laser. That idea became two interacting sound engines: pressure reshapes their tones, and each engine can influence the other. The physics inspires the instrument; it is not a literal molecular simulation.

THE NAME / THE FACEJSSL

Meet Jasper.

Jasper is the dog behind the name. Half German Shepherd, half Husky, with one blue eye and one brown eye. His portrait is our logo.

The lab grew out of building instruments we wanted to play. We are still building them, testing them in music, and seeing where each idea goes.

✳WHAT THE WORK COULD SUPPORT

More access to making music.

We want the work to support music education as well as make useful tools. One idea we’re exploring is to work with a youth music mentorship nonprofit: develop software with young people in its program, give them access to those tools, and direct part of the revenue back to the organization.

This is a proposal, not an announced partnership. We’ll share names and specific commitments after developing them with the nonprofit.
